And it begins. Alaska’s Governor Sarah Palin handed the reins of executive power to her Lt. Governor Sean Parnell on Sunday, clearing the way for bigger and perhaps better things. At a time when the Republican Party is in tatters due to the incompetence of men like former President George W. Bush and Sen. John McCain, Palin is the only high-profile member of her party interested in rekindling its smoldering conservative embers.

To that end, she is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library on August 8th. In a very smart move, she also intends to campaign for candidates across the country. As Obama’s socialism bogs-down our already dreary economy, the former governor plans to build a bipartisan coalition on the Reagan model – by supporting candidates that stand for small government and lower taxes, no matter their party. As Reagan proved with his huge re-election victory in 1984 (49 states to Mondale’s 1) that’s the kind of “reaching across the aisle” that stays true to conservative values while expanding ones political base outside a particular party. Since a conservative Tea Party seems unlikely to form any time soon, Palin seems determined to woo disaffected voters squishy Republicans are too deaf to hear and Democrats can’t buy with “stimulus” graft. Is it any wonder her enemies used ethics charges to tie her to Alaska, hoping to deny her a national stage to poke holes in Obama’s “hope and change.”

Obama’s plan to socialize medical care in America is running into problems, not from Republicans but “Blue Dog” conservative Democrats. When Bush was president, he and Sen. McCain always sought to accommodate liberal, big-government Democrats like Sen. Kennedy. Palin, on the other hand, is the only Republican that seeks to build a bipartisan conservative coalition that wins elections.

While most squishy Republicans cower in the shadow of Obama, Palin sees his vulnerabilities and is eager to exploit them. No one knows the truth of this better than Obama’s handlers and his amen corner in the media. They mock her because they fear her.
