Iranian president Ahmadinejad
The Associated press reports that terrorist attacks in the Iranian city of Zahedan (near the Pakistan border) are believed to be the work of al Qaida, resulting from the long tribal struggle between Iran’s Sunnis minority and its Shiite-run mullah-ocracy.
Even Iran’s fanatical president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is not exempt from terrorist wrath. Gunmen opened fire on his Zahedan campaign headquarters, wounding three. A bank and Shiite mosque were also hit in bomb attacks. The shadowy group taking credit for the mayhem calls itself Jundallah, or God’s Soldiers, and are associated with Osama bin Laden’s al Qaida.
Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in a broadcast to the nation said, “enemies were trying to create chaos but all people should remain aware.” By enemies, of course, he means the United States. It’s highly unlikely that President Obama is involved in destabilizing the Iranian regime anymore than the anemic Bush administration. But it’s nice to see the mother of all terrorist states having to deal with the scourge it so effectively unleashed on the rest of the world.
