The Pew Forum on Religion and Public Life released the results of a poll illustrating the nation’s general confusion. According to the poll, about 24% of America adults believe in New Age mysticism, which includes a belief in reincarnation and the spiritual fulfillment that’s said to come while bending the body into uncomfortable yoga positions.
Among the general population, 18% believe they have been in the presence of a ghost, while 15% have consulted a psychic. The survey finds that college graduates are more likely (17%) to seek out a psychic than Americans with a high school or lower education (13%).
“Older people (those over age 65) consistently express lower levels of acceptance of these kinds of beliefs compared with younger people,” the survey found. “These beliefs are more common among Democrats and independents than Republicans and are more widely held by liberals and moderates than conservatives.”
Saint Paul defined faith as “the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” The same apparently holds true for the followers of Saint Obama of Chicago.
